Wati Alternatives in 2026: Team Inboxes Without Per-Message Fees

Wati runs on the official WhatsApp Business API, so on top of the Wati plan you pay Meta for messages. Until October 1, 2026, replies inside the 24-hour customer service window were free. From that date, Meta charges for those replies too, per message, at each country's utility rate. For a busy support team, every conversation now has a price.

If that's why you're comparing, the main alternative is to connect your number by QR code instead of the API. Meta doesn't bill per message on a QR connection. Here's the short list:

  • A team sharing a number, on a budget: HaberChat, from $47.40 a month per number with 3 teammates included.
  • A sales team that lives in its CRM: TimelinesAI, from $25 per user a month.
  • Heavy use of WhatsApp groups: Periskope, from $25 per user a month.
  • Staying on the API, across several channels: respond.io, from $79 a month plus Meta's fees.

Disclosure: we make HaberChat, so weigh our pick accordingly. Prices come from each vendor's public pricing page, checked on September 28, 2026, and are linked so you can confirm them.

What you pay for on Wati

According to Wati's pricing page, the bill has three parts:

  • The plan. Growth is capped at 3 users, with no option to add more. Pro and Business include 5 users, with extra users from $24 and $69 a month respectively.
  • Meta's message fees. Charged per message, by country and message type. Since October 1, 2026, that includes replies inside the 24-hour window.
  • Add-ons, such as the Shopify integration at $4.99 a month.

Wati's plan prices vary by region and billing period, so check the live page. What matters for this comparison is the structure: users are capped or charged per head, and replies now carry a Meta fee too.

QR code or API: the choice behind every alternative

A QR connection links your existing WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business number to a team inbox, the same way WhatsApp Web links a computer. There's no Meta approval, no templates and no per-message fee. The trade-off: it isn't an official Meta integration, sending speed is limited, and WhatsApp's anti-spam rules apply. It suits conversations with people who expect to hear from you, not cold bulk sends.

The official API is the better fit for high volume, approved marketing templates, and interactive buttons and forms, and you pay Meta per message for it. Some tools, including HaberChat and TimelinesAI, support both, plus coexistence, which keeps the WhatsApp Business app working on a number that's also on the API. HaberChat's help center has a side-by-side comparison of QR and API.

1. HaberChat: best for teams sharing a number

HaberChat is a WhatsApp team inbox. You connect a number, invite your team, then assign chats, leave private notes and reply together. Plans are priced per number with teammates included, rather than per user.

  • Connects by: QR code, the official Cloud API or coexistence.
  • Price: Professional $47.40 a month (3 teammates), Business $82.90 (6) and Enterprise $120.40 (9, then $18 per extra user). Each plan covers one number. See pricing. The free trial runs 7 days, with no credit card.
  • Stands out for: campaigns, scheduled messages and quick replies on every plan, and an AI assistant (Business and up) that drafts replies in your customer's language.
  • Trade-offs: no native CRM sync (you connect a CRM through Zapier, Make or the API), and each plan covers one number.

2. TimelinesAI: best for CRM-driven sales teams

  • Connects by: QR code, the official API or coexistence.
  • Price: $25, $40 or $60 per user a month, and each user needs a seat. See pricing.
  • Stands out for: native sync with HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce, Zoho and monday.com.
  • Trade-offs: per-user pricing adds up for larger teams, and the full shared inbox starts on the $40 plan.

We compare TimelinesAI in more depth in our guide to TimelinesAI alternatives.

3. Periskope: best for WhatsApp groups

  • Connects by: QR code only; API numbers can't be linked.
  • Price: from $25 per user a month. The first phone is free, and each extra phone costs the same as a user. See pricing.
  • Stands out for: managing many WhatsApp groups, and AI flagging that turns messages into tickets.
  • Trade-offs: per-user pricing, and no official API option if you need one later.

Staying on the API? respond.io

If you need the official API but want WhatsApp in the same inbox as Instagram, Facebook Messenger, email and SMS, respond.io is a common choice. Starter is $79 a month with 5 users. Broadcasts, workflows and AI agents start on Growth, at $159 a month with 10 users. Meta's WhatsApp fees come on top, as with Wati. See pricing.

How to switch without losing your number

Your number stays yours when you leave Wati. You can move it to another API provider, or take it off the API and use it in the WhatsApp Business app again, then connect the app to a QR-based inbox. Chats stored in Wati don't move with the number, so save anything you need before you switch. If you're moving to HaberChat's Cloud API option, follow our migration guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wati charge per message?

Meta does, and Wati passes the fees on. Wati's plans don't include WhatsApp message charges, which vary by country and message type. Since October 1, 2026, replies inside the 24-hour window are charged too.

Is there a Wati alternative without per-message fees?

Yes: tools that connect your number by QR code, such as HaberChat, TimelinesAI and Periskope. Meta doesn't bill per message on a QR connection. The trade-offs are an unofficial connection and lower sending limits.

Can I keep my WhatsApp number if I leave Wati?

Yes. Move it to another API provider, or take it off the API and use it in the WhatsApp Business app with a QR-based inbox. Chats stored in Wati don't move with the number.

What's the cheapest Wati alternative for a small team?

For a team sharing one number, HaberChat's Professional plan is $47.40 a month with three teammates, with no Meta message fees on a QR connection (list prices, September 2026).
